As with many of the issues facing us with the plastic epidemic we are currently living through, we don’t need to re-invent the wheel to find the solution, we only need to look back to life before plastic for the answers, and that wasn’t very long ago.
When we looked at the problems with the old paper straws from our childhood they were single sheet of paper, hence why they collapsed and got soggy. Some manufacturers back then coated their straws with a wax substance to try and make them more waterproof. This helped a bit, but then made the straws non-biodegradable.
So we have created a straw that is first and foremost user-friendly, meeting the basic needs of someone wanting to drink through a straw. They are rigid enough and durable for at least an hour in a drink. However they are also completely bio-degradable.

For the first 6 months during the launch campaign in order to draw attention to the paper straw revolution, all of our straws will be one colour. Our straws will be an eye catching lime green so that they really stand out and scream WE ARE GREEN for the venues and users. As each new venue gets onboard they will be listed and featured on our website and praised for taking a responsible stand and eliminating plastic straws from the last problem.
We also want to promote JUST SAY NO. If you don’t need a straw, then just let the server know. We’d prefer you didn’t use a straw at all, however if you want to, then make sure its paper or another eco-friendly material.
· The little plastic sip straw you had last night in your Gin & Tonic will still be here in a few hundred years time, long after your gone!
Paper straws cost more than plastic, dollar wise this is sadly a fact so this makes convincing someone to do the right thing all the harder. Because of this we decided that whatever price we get the straws for, is the price we pass on to the venues. We will be completely transparent and as volume increases, we hope the costs will keep plummeting.
WE DO NOT MAKE ANY MONEY OFF THE SALE OF STRAWS. OUR INTEREST IS PURELY TO GET PLASTIC STRAWS OUT OF CIRCULATION AND HELP TO REDUCE ONE OF THE MAIN ITEMS OF PLASTIC POLLUTION FOUND IN THE OCEANS
That said we are looking for corporate sponsors to help us cover the costs of the campaign, ideal for any companies CSR program that wants to get involved at the grass roots level and show real tangible results.
